Sam Moses is an Oakland-grown baller whose name is deeply tied to Bay Area basketball as a standout point guard, respected trainer, coach, and former operator of the region’s largest basketball facility. Playing point guard taught him the power of making assists and setting others up for success, a mindset that naturally evolved into the vision for LAYUP. What began as an AAU program quickly became a larger platform to give youth and young adults a space to learn, grow, and just enjoy the game—free from the heavy pressures of life. With strong relationships across the sports and community world, Sam continues to open doors and create lasting opportunities for those who need it most.
A proud Bay Area native born and raised in Oakland, Allan has always felt a deep responsibility to give back to the community that shaped him. With a lifelong commitment to bridging equity gaps in access and opportunity, he focused his efforts on helping youth and young adults reach their full potential. When co-founder Sam Moses shared the vision for LAYUP, it was a clear alignment of values combining a love for sports with mentorship and meaningful, lasting impact. Together, they’re building a movement that empowers young people to rise, grow, and thrive on the court and in life.
